After a few years of R&D in the flexible screen department, last year Samsung released its first smartphone with a flexible panel. We all know this device as the “Galaxy Round” – a gadget that has been launched in few numbers in Korea, and a smartphone that hasn’t really been as successful as the manufacturer hoped.

Since the Round hit the shelves, Samsung hasn’t shown any real signs of pushing the technology forward. No flexible screen smartphones have been announced since (although the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is rumored to feature the manufacturer’s famous Youm display), and it seems that the Korean tech giant might’ve decided to put any investments in its flexible screen plants on hold.

However, the competition isn’t sitting idly. Apple is expected to release its iWatch boasting a flexible display, and LG Display is also going to ramp-up its flexible screen production for the rest of the year, in order to supply the market with these types of panels. LG is also rumored to be the sole supplier of flexible displays for Apple’s iWatch.

Now, reports coming from Sammy’s homeland suggest that the Korean tech giant is once again going to focus its attention on the production of flexible displays. Check out the details below.

Samsung Galaxy S6, Note 5 To Use Flexible Displays, Samsung Building A New Factory (Report)

Samsung Galaxy S6, Note 5 to Use Flexible Displays

Up until now, Samsung Display has delayed its investments in the A3 plant, which focuses solely on the production of flexible displays. However, following the growing interest in this type of technology, and due to the dissatisfaction of Samsung’s business partners (who have reportedly said that they will have no choice but to supply their equipment to other companies if Sammy doesn’t change gears), the Korean mobile manufacturer has decided to resume building its new A3 factory.

It will take several months for the plant to be fully operational, and reports suggest that the A3 factory will be up and running in November or December 2014, at the earliest. More to the point, sources also suggest that Samsung needs this factory fully operational ASAP, as both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Note 5 will use flexible displays. In addition, analysts claim that Sammy is expected to bring more innovations to its smartphones’ design, in order to be able and compete on this highly competitive market.

Hopefully this isn’t just wishful thinking, as we’ve waited for Samsung to make some changes in its smartphone build quality for years, to no avail.
